My Favorite Apps (So Far)

I am always looking for fun, easy to use apps for my iPad and wanted to share some of my favorites. I highly recommend checking these out. All are FREE. I have just begun to learn how to use many of these and the capabilities go beyond my limited experience.

Here are a list of my favorites.

  1. Flipboard.  My favorite! This is like designing your favorite magazines and finding articles with a simple swipe of the page. Whatever topic you may be interested in you will get current and concise information here.  Also links to Twitter, Facebook or e-mail. I read more on Flipboard that any other app( aside from ibook).
  2. Evernote: Toted originally as a note taking mobile application but for me it is so much more and always improving. I keep all items that I want to find quickly on Evernote. It syncs to all my mobile devices and computer.  With a simple click you can save web sites, articles of interest, photos, etc. When I find an article or web page that I want to explore more I save to Evernote. But it does so much more than I use it for so definitely worth checking into.
  3. Trulia: The easiest Real Estate app.  You knew I had to have at least one. I love that it maps every listing and includes current homes for sale and rent. It also provides open house information which is great when scoping out neighborhoods on weekends.
  4. Flixster:  I love movies. Occasionally we decide to check out a movie at a moment’s notice. This app will tell you where movies are showing, times and reviews. I won’t go to a movie before reading a review.
  5. Weather Channel:  This one is pretty obvious but all old people, like myself, discussing the weather seems to an important topic to me.
  6. Pinterest: If you are not on pinterest yet please go now. I can never explain what a pleasure it is to scan through Pinterest for recipes, decorating ideas, clothes, and hundreds of other fun things. Just joining the ranks of Pinterest is Gentlemint that is geared towards men.
  7. Dropbox: Web based app that I use often. I can simply upload photos, documents and save them to all my mobile devices and easily e-mails these files to colleagues and clients. Between Dropbox and Evernote I should always have what I need.
  8. Amazon Windowshopping: I do a lot of browsing for items I need or simply want and I like the organization of this app. From clothes, appliances or books this app concisely gives you options and reviews.
  9. Words with Friends. I have to have at least one game and this is it. Scrabble with friends. This is addictive, distracting and oh so much fun.
  10. Nook. I do use ibooks but I love that I can access Barnes and Noble book store and share books with fellow Nook users. You have the same capabilities of highlighting, book marking, font size changes as well as background color contrast. Definitely worth having.

So now that you know what my favorites are what are yours? I am always looking for something new to learn so I would love to hear from you. lisaramler@gmail.com or Twitter @lisaramler, 785-691-8288
